The Baldwin County Trailblazers

The Baldwin County Trailblazers advocate for improved and expanded walking and biking opportunities in Baldwin County, Alabama. As part of our mission, we manage the Walking School Bus and organize and promote bicycle parking (Bike Valet) at public events, highly visible programs that inspire “people-powered” commuting. In 2020, the organization sponsored new bike racks, publicly recognized bike-friendly businesses, and championed safe connectivity throughout the county for cyclists and pedestrians.

A little history about a big project – The Trailblazers were founded as a nonprofit in 1995 to raise funds to create The Eastern Shore Trail, a 22-mile multi-surface path connecting North Daphne to Weeks Bay. We are advocates for the now-popular Trail.

2024 Chalk the Trail

Chalk the Trail is an annual event held on the bluff above Fairhope’s South Beach Park on Earth Day weekend. After participants finish their chalk masterpieces, they can head down to the bay to check out Earth Day Mobile Bay. Check back for information about sponsoring or attending our 2024 event!

Initiatives

  • Walking School Bus

The smallest Trailblazers are the children at Fairhope Elementary schools who walk to school every day, rain or shine, through Alabama’s only daily walk to school program.

  • Eastern Shore Trail

The Eastern Shore Trail connects North Daphne to South Fairhope via sidewalks and paving that extend from I-10 at the northern end to Weeks Bay at the southern end.

  • Chalk the Trail

Show off your creative side by decorating a paved square of the Eastern Shore Trail near the Fairhope Pier. Prizes are awarded for children and adults, individuals and teams.
